The Durbin and Minor family have produced cattle for 35 years. In 1993 Tim and Jimmy purchased 20 Angus cows
and began to AI to carcass proven Simmental bulls. The operation now maintains approximately 500 head of producing females
ranging from 1/2 Simm.x1/2 Angus, 3/4 Simm.x1/4 Angus, PB Simmental and PB Angus. We also are into multi generation percentage
cattle (bulls and females). With the work of Tommy Brown, Gary Minor, and Jamie McConnell the farm also produces
some 250 bulls to market at our annual bull sale in December each year and/or by private treaty. With the help of our co-operator
herds, who have purchased females from us via private treaty, we are also beginning to contract bulls to our customers. It
has been a good feeling of accomplishment but also one of pressure to have customers call and order bulls sight unseen in
the past couple of years. Our farm is a no nonsense operation. We have lost an entire peach crop before in a 2 hour window
or to a 15 minute hail storm. We know what farming is, good and bad. One committment we have always had is to tell people
the way it really is. Sometimes we may not be the most popular opinion of the month but our opinion doesn't change just to
fit the visitor of that particular day.
My son J.D. is 10 years old and my daughter Jessica is 16. This farm has fed and clothed all of us for a
lot of years and we continue to be dedicated to build a reputation of purpose and integrity. After all, my children and yours
need to learn to help one another in the years to come and to make a living at farming. Some say farming is hard and I agree,
but there are a lot of things that are hard. A 9-5 job has it's own problems also. We try to find the good and multiply it,
whether it be cattle, peaches, or customers. I believe you are only as good as the people you surround yourself with and we
have been blessed with our people.
If you think our program can work with yours we would like for you to give us a chance, and for those of
you who have already gotten to know us, you know our history, and I hope that will be enough. We all thank you for your efforts!!!
Thank you,
Tim W. Minor
